Falling in Love with an Idea… and Falling Out of Love Later (And Why That’s Okay!)

about us authenticity Mar 04, 2025

I can’t even count how many times I’ve gone all in on an idea, convinced it was the one. The product. The service. The event. The program. The thing that was going to take off, change everything, and be my next big success.

And sometimes, it works. But more often than not? I find myself falling out of love with it just as quickly as I fell in.

If you've been there too—if you've ever thrown your heart, soul, and time into something, only to realize later that it wasn’t for you—let me tell you right now: you are not alone. And you are NOT failing.

Been There, Done That (More Than Once)

I’ve planned retreats—not just once, not twice, but multiple times—before finally accepting that hosting them wasn’t something I truly loved.

I’ve planned events that didn’t sell a single ticket. I poured time, energy, and creativity into them, only to realize that no one else was as excited as I was.

I’ve launched programs that felt like the absolute perfect idea—(cough cough, The Client Magnet Accelerator)—only to watch them fizzle out as soon as I started putting in the work.

And those? Those are just a few examples. There have been more. Many more.

So... What Gives?

You could chalk it up to my ADHD, or say I lacked the experience to make them work. But honestly? Every single time I’ve tried something new, I’ve learned.

I’ve learned what I like.
I’ve learned what I don’t like.
I’ve learned what lights me up, what drains me, and what I never want to do again.

Every failed event, every abandoned project, every fizzled-out idea—it all led me to something better.

Like my son’s baseball coach always says: "We don’t lose, we learn."

You Can’t Know Until You Try

The truth is, you don’t know if you’ll love something until you do it.

It’s like trying a new food. You can read all the reviews, watch people rave about it, and build up huge expectations. But until you take that first bite, you have no idea how you will feel about it.

Or like picking up a book that everyone swears is amazing—sometimes, it’s an instant favorite. Other times, you get a few chapters in and realize it’s just not your thing.

Business ideas are the same way.

  • That service that seemed perfect in theory? Maybe in practice, it just drains you.
  • That event you were sure people would love? Maybe your audience just isn’t interested.
  • That program you thought was the thing? Maybe it’s missing a piece that you didn’t see until you started building it.

So... What Now?

If you’re sitting there feeling guilty or frustrated because something you once loved no longer excites you, let that go.

You’re not lost. You’re refining. You’re figuring out what truly works for you.

And that is how you build a business you actually love.

Here’s the real secret: every “failed” idea brings you closer to the right one.

Every pivot, every redirection, every “nope, not for me” moment is a step toward finding what actually fits.

So if you’re in the messy middle of something that no longer excites you, or if you’re realizing that the thing you were once obsessed with just isn’t working—breathe. It’s okay.

Your next yes is on its way. And you’re getting closer every single day.
